Haas Tannery
Why LAMIRAL chose Tannerie Haas
In Eichhoffen, Alsace, Tannerie Haas has been perpetuating exceptional craftsmanship centered on the finest calfskins since 1842.
At LAMIRAL, we consider leather to be the starting point of every creation. Its feel, suppleness, grain, and the way it develops a patina determine what the object will become several years after leaving our workshop.
It is this search for materials capable of standing the test of time that led us to work with Tannerie Haas.
Founded in 1842 and based in Eichhoffen, at the foot of the Vosges mountains in Alsace, Haas is one of those French manufacturers whose expertise has been built and passed down over several generations.
The nobility of calfskin
Tannerie Haas is particularly renowned for its work with full-grain calfskin, a material highly sought after in leather goods for the fineness of its grain, its suppleness, and the richness of its feel.
Full grain corresponds to the noblest part of the hide. It retains its natural surface and therefore requires a particularly rigorous selection of skins.
This is precisely what we look for at LAMIRAL: a material that you want to touch, but also a material capable of living.
With time and use, the leather evolves. Its handle becomes more supple, its color gains depth, and a patina gradually appears. The object then ceases to be perfectly new and becomes truly personal.
Behind a color, real expertise
Obtaining beautiful leather is not just about dyeing a skin.
Between the raw hide and the one that arrives on the table of our workshop in Graulhet, there are numerous operations of tanning, dyeing, drying, softening, and finishing.
It is this mastery that makes it possible to obtain a deep color, a specific feel, and above all, a material that is consistent and resistant enough to meet the demands of high-end leather goods.
When we select a Haas leather, we are not just choosing a reference from a color chart. We are choosing the result of more than 180 years of experience with the material.
From Alsace to our Graulhet workshop
Working with Haas is also part of a fundamental desire at LAMIRAL: knowing where the materials that make up our creations come from.
The leather is processed in Eichhoffen, Alsace, then joins our workshop in Graulhet, in the Tarn, where it is cut, skived, assembled, stitched, and finished by hand by our artisans.
This proximity to our partners allows us to maintain a connection with the material and with those who manufacture it.
Alongside French houses like Rémy Carriat in the Basque Country or Poursin in Paris, Haas thus participates in this geography of expertise that we wish to highlight through LAMIRAL.
Choosing what is not immediately visible
A client does not necessarily know the name of the tannery when they take a LAMIRAL creation into their hands for the first time.
And yet, they immediately feel the workmanship.
In the suppleness of the leather. In its touch. In the depth of a color. And a few years later, in the way the material has aged.
It is precisely for these details that we chose Tannerie Haas.
Because luxury is not just about creating a beautiful object. It is also about knowing exactly with what, where, and by whom it was made.
