In the workshop, the hand before the machine

Every LAMIRAL piece is born from a succession of precise, mastered, and transmitted gestures. In our Graulhet workshop, the machine still supports the hand, never the other way around.

In the workshop, the hand before the machine

In Graulhet, our workshop has been working with leather for over fifty years. Machines have their place, of course, but they replace neither the eye, nor the hand, nor the artisan's experience.

Everything begins with the material. Before being cut, each hide is observed, touched, and examined. Leather is a living material: its grain, suppleness, and nuances vary from one hide to another. The placement of the various pieces is therefore determined with care before the first cutting movement even begins.

Then come the various stages of preparation and assembly. Skiving, gluing, stitching, attaching accessories, edge painting, finishing: each requires precision and mastery. Some movements are assisted by machines that have long accompanied the work of leatherworkers; others remain entirely manual.

It is this succession of operations, sometimes almost invisible once the piece is finished, that makes the difference. Even stitching, a perfectly finished edge, correctly positioned leather, or a fastener adjusted to the millimeter owe nothing to chance.

At LAMIRAL, we have chosen to maintain this way of manufacturing. Our creations are produced in small quantities and made to order in our workshop by artisans who know the material and the techniques of the craft.

Taking the time to do things right is not a manufacturing constraint. It is part of the object.
